Hi I'm Katrina, a professional Canine Behaviour Practitioner at KRUFTS. A bit about me - Since a child I have grown up in a family of dog lovers and after spending time volunteering in local dog shelters I quickly developed a passion for dogs and their welfare. As a family we have always owned and cared for rescue dogs, especially ones that have challenging behavioural problems as a result of being poorly treated or abandoned.
In 2015 I sadly lost one of my dogs Kelsey (featured in the image) at the grand old age of 14. Kelsey was rescued at the age of 1 years old and had a tough beginning in life. Missing out on a normal puppy hood he came with his own behavioural issues - aggression, leash pulling and no socialisation skills whatsoever!
Even though we had always cared for rescue dogs, having Kelsey was my first real hands on experience of owning a dog with various behavioural issues and I admit that I made many mistakes and listened to the wrong advice at the start. Feeling frustrated I decided enough was enough and I began researching Dog Behaviour. After a few years of study and putting what I learnt into practice with Kelsey I gradually started seeing positive results. Being patient, learning to understand Kelsey's behaviour and more importantly building a trusting and loving bond with him slowly but surely changed him into the most amazing dog. To this day people who remember him still stop and ask about him which makes me really proud.
After Kelsey, I continued my education and completed my Level 4 qualification in Advanced Canine Behaviour. Alongside my study I also started the dog walking / running service which gives me so much experience with different dog breeds on a daily basis.
Today we currently own two rescue dogs, Bradley an 11 year old Doberman and Lewis a 7 year old German Shepherd. Both where rescued at the age of 1 years old and just like Kelsey, both have their own behavioural issues which we continue to rehabilitate. They are both amazing dogs full of personality!
